There’s a certain kind of shift that happens in April. That’s when it really starts to feel like Spring. The light feels softer and warmer and happier. Or maybe it’s the hope of warmer days that makes it feel that way!
Mornings have a different rhythm and we start to come out of our hibernation state and into a sort of growth and change phase. We follow nature’s lead.
As the chill of winter fades, suddenly we begin to notice our space again. The tired corner and the rooms that could use a little more life. The desire for something fresh. Usually accompanied by a deep desire to spring clean and declutter!
Spring often invites us to reset. But it doesn’t have to be rushed or dramatic. It can be slow, thoughtful, and rooted in things that make your home really feel like yours.
One of the simplest ways to begin (and my personal favorite) is with art.
1. Start with one piece that changes the feeling
You don’t need to redo your entire room to create something new. Sometimes all it takes is switching a few things around and maybe bringing in one new thing that creates a new feeling in the space. Something with light, and warmer tones, softness. Perhaps something that feels hopeful. A floral painting with blooms of seeds you’ve just started. A gentle landscape that yields a memory or a dream. Or a piece that reminds you of something you love. Any of these can quietly transform the atmosphere of a space.
Art has a way of setting the tone of a space. It becomes a part of the vibes of the space rather than something you work around. Find something that speaks to you and let it guide you!

2. Let go of what feels heavy
Spring is about growth and blooming. It’s about planting seeds for the beauty to come. And one of those seeds that we start to focus on is the feeling of a fresh slate. Spring cleaning. I can sometimes take this to even a mental level. Like Spring cleaning my routines and my habits. Take out what isn’t working and build from there. The same is true with your space. Probably more commonly, we feel the urge to declutter when we begin to emerge from our proverbial cozy caves of hibernation. We want to let the sun and air in and feed the hopes we’ve begun to cling to. Take a moment to notice what feels visually heavy or out of place or what doesn’t feel like you. Maybe it’s a dark or cluttered area, or a piece that no longer fits your style, or a space that feels overly filled. You don’t need to throw it all out. Just creating a little breathing room allows your space to feel more intentional and gives you an opportunity to build on that and make it really feel like you.
3. Bring in light through color and subject
Spring naturally feels soft and light and your home can reflect that too. Look for ways to introduce lighter color palettes, artwork with floral or nature-inspired elements, or pieces that feel calm and dreamy. Gently shifting with the season allows us to feel reinvigorated and inspired in a natural rhythm

4. Rearrange what you already have
A reset doesn’t always require something new. Try moving these around and trying different spots for pieces you already love. Different spaces in your home may have different lighting or you may want to create a new vibe. You can bring new life into pieces you already have, just by shopping your own home! Try taking a painting that you love from your living room and styling it in your bedroom. Or take a few smaller pieces from throughout your house and group them together in a fun little vignette. I love switching out just a couple of pieces on my gallery wall each season to sort of freshen it up and bring it along with me into the present moment.
Even subtle changes can make your space feel fresh and new!
5. Create one intentional corner
I can sometimes be an all or nothing type of gal. At least when it comes to a project. I like to see it fully finished. But instead of trying to refresh the whole house, try focusing on a single space. Maybe it’s your bedside table and you add a mini painting that brings you joy and perhaps some fresh flowers. Or maybe your reading chair needs some softer lighting to make it more usable. Pair that change with a calming or literary piece of art and you’ve got yourself a mini makeover! Maybe the kitchen is your happy place. Try taking one corner and create a little inspirational vignette with a piece of art a cookbook stand and maybe a fun pair of salt and pepper shakers or a whimsical olive oil dispenser.
These small areas can often be overlooked, even when they’re the most used spaces! With these little changes they can become your favorite, most loved parts of your home.
6. Add elements that echo your art
When your décor reflects the artwork, everything feels more cohesive. For example, if the art features florals, add some fresh or dried flowers nearby. Does your art incorporate soft greens? Bring in some plants, a propagation station, and some natural textures. Are there warm tones in your artwork? Incorporate wood, linen, or ceramics to round out the vibes of the space. Creating a sense of harmony between what’s on the wall and what makes up the space can transcend into your mental space as well!
7. Make it a feeling you want to return to
While Spring often inspires a reset, this kind of gentle refresh is something you can return to anytime your home feels like it needs a little more light. Just bringing in a new art print, some new textures, or styling what you have in a new way can bring new life into your space without feeling overwhelming.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about creating a space that feels like you. That brings a sense of peace, feels personal, and provides an opportunity to create small moments you look forward to being in.
Art plays a quiet but powerful role in that by turning your home into something that reflects not just how you want it to look, but how you want it to feel

Refresh your space gently and without overwhelm. If you’ve been craving a softer, more intentional home, start small. Choose one piece of art, move something around, or even make it a part of your routine to open the curtains all around your home each morning. It may seem simple, but it can make a big difference!
