Happy 2024!
Are you settling in nicely to the new year? I feel like I'm just coming down off of the holidays and finally starting to get my stride. It can be difficult I think to feel all the pressures of the new year while simultaneously decompressing the past year and resetting after the holidays. I saw a social media post recently that basically said consider January a reset instead of a restart. Reset before you make big changes. It makes sense. Big changes and growth happen in the Spring, rest and recovery and preparation happen in the Winter. Why is it that after the most chaotic part of the year (albeit the best) when our schedules are the most different is when we choose to make the most drastic changes? I know it's a good time to feel like a fresh start, but I think it's possible it could be more sustainable with a little prep work. I haven't thought about this until this year but I'm sort of giving it a try. Taking the first week or so to kind of catch my breath and settle in and then consider the changes that make sense. Don't get me wrong, I am so excited about the new year and one of the things that makes it so exciting is the freshness of it! So I made a vision board! My first one! and I had a lot of fun doing it. In fact, I highly recommend making one if you want to feel inspired and excited about what your year might hold.
I believe 2024 is the year of dreams. I mean it is the year of the dragon after all! So I think that just makes sense. There are a lot of goals and aspirations I've dreamed and I have a feeling this year will see them come to light.
This year for me is about my dreams and all of the steps I need to take to get there, but also I want it to be a little bit about balance. Do you do a word of the year? I usually don't put much stock into mine (and in fact last year I forgot what it even was) but this year I knew what mine was going to be since November. Balance. I have a lot of work to do to achieve my goals and truly make this my year of dreams, but I also recognize that I need to make time for me. So balance, staying rooted in the seasons, romanticizing and laughing, and working hard to get to where I want to be. That's what 2024 looks like to me.
